A space to talk about what is happening in your life

Living in a different country can bring situations that are not always easy to understand.

Relationships, loneliness, uncertainty, changes in your life, difficulties at work, questions about what you want, or simply the feeling that something is not quite right can become more complicated when you are experiencing them away from the place you used to call home.

Sometimes, having someone with whom you can talk openly can help make things a little clearer.

I am a psychologist in Medellín, Colombia, and I offer psychotherapy in English, both in person and online.

Why the language of therapy matters

Talking about personal experiences is not quite the same as talking about everyday things.

When we speak about relationships, fears, sexuality, family, difficult experiences or things we do not fully understand about ourselves, language becomes particularly important.

It is not only about being able to communicate. It is about finding the right words. It is about being able to explain something that is difficult to explain, notice contradictions, remember things, and make connections. It is about talking about your experiences without constantly having to think about whether what you are saying is being understood correctly.

For this reason, I believe that feeling comfortable with the language used in therapy is important.

English is not simply a language I use for basic communication. It is the language in which we can have the same kind of open, careful conversation that takes place in my Spanish-speaking consultations.

What can we talk about?

There does not have to be a single, clearly defined problem in order to begin therapy.

Some people come because of a particular situation. Others simply have the feeling that something in their lives needs to be understood.

Among the things we can work on are:

Relationships and intimacy

Difficulties in relationships, breakups, loneliness, uncertainty about relationships, or recurring patterns that are difficult to understand.

Personal decisions

Important decisions, changes in direction, uncertainty about what you want, or difficulty finding a way forward.

Anxiety and emotional difficulties

Situations in which worry, insecurity, sadness or other emotions begin to interfere with everyday life.

Life changes

Moving to another country, changes in work or relationships, adapting to a different environment, or periods in which the life you had before no longer feels quite the same.

Feeling lost

Sometimes there is no obvious problem. You simply feel disconnected from what you want, from other people, or from yourself.

These are only examples. You do not need to fit into a particular category to have a reason to consult.

My way of working

My work is mainly conversational.

I am interested in understanding what is behind what people feel, think and do, rather than simply trying to eliminate a particular symptom as quickly as possible.

During a session, we talk about what is happening, about the things that have brought you here, and about the ways in which you have been experiencing them.

Sometimes understanding something differently can change the way we experience it.

This does not mean that everything has a quick solution. Some things take time. But understanding what is happening can make it possible to approach it differently.

I have worked with young people and adults from different backgrounds for many years, including artists, musicians, students and professionals. I graduated in Psychology from the Universidad de Antioquia in 2009 and have worked in private practice in Medellín since then.

About me

I am a psychologist interested in the things that are not always easy to say out loud.

Alongside my clinical work, I write about relationships, decisions, emotions and the situations in life that are often more complicated than they initially appear.

Writing and psychotherapy have something in common for me: both are ways of trying to understand what happens to us by putting things into words.
